Point S Tire & Auto is excited to announce the Fourth Annual Septemberfest Soapbox Derby on Friday & Saturday, September 13th-14th.
 

September 13:
4pm - 8pm: Family Friendly Activities on the Pedestrian Mall

 

Help us kick off the Septemberfest weekend! Starting at 4:00 pm there will be a soapbox derby car show on the pedestrian mall in front of Ten Mile Creek Brewery. While you are checking out the derby cars, enjoy live music, food trucks, and more! There will also be a toy soapbox car race track set up for kids to test out their racing skills!   

September 14:

1:00 - 4:00 pm(ish) - Soapbox Car Races on 6th Street

4:30 pm(ish) - Awards Presentation  & Live Music in Front of Ten Mile Creek Brewery

RACE & VEHICLE
REQUIREMENTS

These instructions are only to help you get started. All cars must fit the requirements listed below. 

RACE REQUIREMENTS
•   Race registration is FREE but donations are encouraged. Donations will go toward local nonprofits.
•   Racers must be pre-registered to participate.
​•   Registration deadline is September 6
, 2024.
•   Race participants can be under the age of 18 but must have a valid driver's license and their parent/guardian must be present at all times during the races .
•   Races will begin on Cruse Avenue (next to the Chamber Building), take a hard left down 6th Ave (with an optional jump down-course), and sail down 6th Avenue to the Walking Mall. 
•   Costumes are encouraged.
•   All team members must wear long pants, long shirt, shoes, gloves, helmet, and goggles.
•   Each team can consist of up to 3 people: 1 Racer and 2 Pushers.
•   Each team will be allotted a 10x10 space to work on their Soapbox in the staging area.
•   For the safety of the spectators, participants, and volunteers, anyone who appears to be intoxicated will not be allowed to race their car. The team will be given the chance to replace their team member. If they are unable to locate a new driver, the team will be disqualified from the races. 


VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS
•   Vehicles must be non-motorized.

•   Vehicles must have at least 4 wheels. 
•   Vehicle Pushing must happen from the back of the vehicle and only for a short portion of the race (approximately 80 feet at the beginning of the course).
•   Vehicles can be no more than 5
 feet wide, 8 feet tall, and 9 feet long.
•   Vehicles can weigh no more than 300 pounds, excluding the driver.
•   Vehicles must have fully functioning brakes and steering.
•   Braking with hands or feet is prohibited.
•   Unmodified prefab vehicles are prohibited. (Basically, you can't send an unmodified Barbie car down the course.)
•   No power or tools will be provided, only stoke.
•   No welders, blowtorches, fire pits, or open flames of any kind are allowed at the event. Anyone team who is caught using prohibited items in the pit area will be automatically disqualified.

WAIVER, INDEMNIFICATION, AND RELEASE AGREEMENT

 

JMH, Inc., d/b/a Point S Capital City Tire and Auto and Point S J&J Tire and Auto (“JMH”) will be hosting a soapbox derby in the City of Helena, Lewis and Clark County, Montana on ​​​​​September 13-14 2024 (hereafter, the “Activity”). I acknowledge and understand that the Activity is inherently dangerous and can result in injury or death of the participant or third parties and/or damage or destruction of property.

In consideration of my or my dependent’s/ward’s participation in the Activity, I, together with my heirs, personal representatives, administrators, and assigns, hereby release, waive, and forever discharge and promise not to sue JMH and its owners, officers, directors, employees, insurers, volunteers, and agents of any status whatsoever (collectively, “Releasees”) from all liability to me, my heirs, personal representatives, administrators, and assigns for all loss or damage, and any claim or damage therefore, on account of injury to my person, dependent, and/or ward, or property or resulting in death, whether caused by the negligence of Releasees or otherwise arising out of my or my dependent/ward’s participation in or observation of the Activity.

I further agree to indemnify and to hold forever harmless the Releasees from all claims, loss, liability, damage, or cost Releasees may incur due to my or my dependent/ward’s presence, observation, or participation in the Activity. I hereby assume all responsibility for and risk of bodily injury, death, or property damage due to any act or omission of Releasees arising out of my or my dependent/ward’s presence, observation, or participation in the Activity. On behalf of myself and my dependent/ward, I acknowledge that I and/or my dependent/ward freely and voluntarily participates and/or observes the Activity despite the known and unanticipated risks.

I expressly agree that this waiver, indemnification, and release agreement is intended to be as broad and inclusive as permitted by the laws of the State of Montana and that, if any part is held to be invalid, the balance shall continue in full force and effect. 

I further agree to allow Releasees to use any photographs, film, and/or other recordings of my or my dependent/ward’s participation or observation of the Activity for advertising or social media purposes, and I hereby disclaim any right or interest I or my dependent/ward may have in the same.

By signing this agreement, I waive my and my dependent/ward’s legal right to a jury trial to hold Releasees legally responsible for any injuries or damages resulting from risks inherent in the Activity or for any injuries or damages suffered due to Releasees’ordinary negligence that are the result of Releasees’ failure to exercise reasonable care.

​Your signature below indicates that you have read this entire agreement, understand its contents, and agree to be bound by its terms.
